About us

Who we are

AfroGeez is an independent product company building software of its own.

AfroGeez is an independent software company based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We design, build and run our own products for the web, mobile and AI, made for people anywhere.

We look for everyday problems that software can make simpler, safer or cheaper, and build a product around each one. The same people take it from the first idea to launch, and keep improving it long after.

We are a small, senior team, and we started from a simple belief: good software comes from people who care about whoever ends up using it.

Craftsmanship

We write code the way you'd want to inherit it, since we're the ones who end up maintaining it.

Tested, not hoped

80%+ test coverage, and every bug we fix gets a test of its own, so it never comes back.

Built for the next 10x

The decisions that are hard to change later get made with growth in mind, so success never means a rewrite.

Performance is design

Speed is decided when we design a feature, not patched in after it gets slow.

Fail fast, never silently

Problems should show up early and loudly, so they get fixed before they ever reach you.

Secure by default

Security is part of the design from the first line, not a review bolted on at the end.

Decisions written down

The calls that are expensive to reverse get recorded with their reasoning, so the next maintainer inherits the why.

AI as a tool, not a shortcut

We pair with AI across the whole process, and still read every line we ship. It speeds up the work, it does not sign off on it.

Global by default

Built for people in every time zone, not just the one we happen to work in.

How we work

How we build

Small, senior, and accountable for what we ship, from the first decision to the version people actually use.

01

Senior-led teams

The people who design and build the product are the people who decide how it works.

02

Focused on outcomes

We care whether the product actually works for the people who use it.

03

Ship-ready quality

Code review, CI, and 80%+ test coverage on everything we ship.

04

Built to last

We maintain what we ship, so the second year matters as much as the first.

How a product runs

Five stages, start to years later

Every product here goes the same way, and the last stage is the one that lasts longest.

  1. Decide

We pick a problem we have run into ourselves, and write down what the first version has to do.

  2. Design

We shape the flows, then prototype whichever part we are least sure about before building on it.

  3. Build

Short cycles, each ending in something that genuinely runs rather than a progress report.

  4. Launch

We put it in front of real people and watch what they actually do, which is rarely what we assumed.

  5. Keep

We run it for years afterwards. The dull part — fixes, upkeep, the slow improvements — is the job.
